Rebuilt Supercharger Snout
On 10/26/2004, I took a day off of work to remove my supercharger snout and replace the bearings, seal, coupler, and oil. For awhile, my supercharger was making a rattling sound, then it started to have a whining/groaning sound. I replaced all my idler pulleys first to rule them out, but the sound was still there. So first I had to remove my Supercharger Pulley, then remove the snout. The old supercharger oil was disgusting and smelled really bad. I used a whole can of brake cleaner on the snout to get it nice and clean. Then I took the snout apart and removed the bearings. They had a lot of play in them which probably caused the groaning sounds. I ordered new bearings and a seal from WPI (www.winterhalterperformance.com) and a ZZP coupler.
Anyway, I had to take the snout up to Obers Performance north of town to have them take off one of the two bearing and metal coupler. Once they pressed on the new bearing and replaced the metal coupler, it was ready to re-assemble the snout. Once I had it all back together, I put the snout on the car, filled it up with new supercharger oil, put my pulley back on and started up the car. The groaning sound was gone, but the rattle remained......must be a bad set of rotors. So I'll fix that a little later.
Here's a picture of the snout shaft. Pretty simple, but you need a press and a pulley puller to take it apart.
